Born in Bo’ness. Son of Elizabeth Ballantine who in 1901 was Housekeeper at No:6 Cottages, Grahamsdyke, Bo’ness for Clement Ernest Albert Ist Class Officer Inland Revenue. Brothers William Ballantine and James Johnstone Ballantine. Killed instantly by an artillery shell burst on the 29th March 1918 at the First Battle of Arras during the 15th Division’s defence against the major German Spring Offensive known as Operation Mars.
