Private Robert Dalrymple, 6th Battalion Gordon Highlanders, born at Carriden in 1897, was the eldest son of Henry Dalrymple, a Ploughman, and Agnes Dalrymple, of Mannerston Farm, Linlithgow, West Lothian. His siblings were Mary, Jane, Amelia, Frances, James, Alexander and Minnie. He enlisted at Linlithgow.

Killed in action during the Battle of Cambrai, when the 6th Gordons were ordered to recapture the village of Fontaine Notre Dame from the Germans.
